i have tried to make comments based on the characters' present situations and behaviours, not going back to their past history, since some of them have become better people since then. however, when discussing phyllis and sharon, people almost always bring up phyllis' past, forgetting that sharon also had a pathetic history, so i want to remind those posters that think it's fine for sharon to manipulate her way back into nick's heart, however, subtlely. at one point sharon abandoned her family altogether and while she was away, cassie had an accident and was in a coma for some time. while away she had an affair and at some point another couple of affairs. how can anyone say that she was a good wife and mother. a good wife and mother do not leave for that length of time to "find themselves". most of us have to stay around to raise the kids and hold a job, at the same time as "finding ourselves". contrast this with phyllis' marriage to nick...she has been a good wife and mother thru her entire marriage, only coming undone with sharon's beckoning to nick for minor problems and nick's going to her side. i agree that phyllis' tactics were wrong and bizarre but she thought she cared enough about her marriage to try to save it. sharon did not try to save her marriage, particularly after cassie's death. some marriages survive tragedy and become closer...others do not survive, such as nick's and sharon's. phyllis came into the picture...sharon did not care enough to save her marriage, basically letting nick go. how can it be a good thing to break up a loving, intact family. oh, and believe me, i'm not letting nick off the hook either.

some other posters with better memories than mine, feel free to point out sharon's flaws as a wife and mother.
