Chloe first showed up in Genoa City as Lily Winters' fashion coordinator. Since day one, Chloe has been a pain in the side of Lily. She set up a scene to make it look like she had slept with Lily's fiance, Cane Ashby. Chloe then announced that she was pregnant with Cane's child, thus ending Lily and Cane's relationship. Cane stepped in and agreed to marry Chloe for the sake of the child. During this time, it was revealed that Chloe is actually Kate Valentine, the estranged daughter of Esther Valentine, Katherine Chancellor's housekeeper. Once Chloe had her baby, the truth came out that the child actually belonged to Billy Abbott, Cane's brother. Chloe had lied because she thought that Cane would make a better father than Billy would, even though Billy is the real love of her life.
