Young and Restless character history:

Jill is the CEO of Chancellor Industries (formerly the head of Jabot's Men's Line and CEO), ex-wife of multi-billionaire John Abbott and mother of Billy Abbott. For decades, Jill also believed that she was the biological mother of the now-deceased Phillip Chancellor III, but she has recently learned that Phillip III was secretly given to her after her true son was stolen shortly after birth. Jill is an ambitious and driven woman who has taken herself from the wrong side of the tracks to the executive office of one of Genoa City's most prestigious corporations.

Jill started off as a hairdresser who became friends with Katherine Chancellor. Katherine, an alcoholic, was in an unhappy marriage to Phillip Chancellor II. Jill and Phillip fell in love and Jill became pregnant with Phillip's child. Phillip was subsequently killed in a car crash caused by a drunken Kay, marrying Jill on his deathbed. However, Phillip's divorce from Kay was declared invalid and Jill was left nothing from Phillip's estate. The rivalry between Katherine and Jill became one of the core elements of the show for many years to come.

Jill, at times, has been a promiscuous woman and has had affairs with numerous male characters, notably Jack Abbott, Blade Bladeson, Rex Sterling, Larry Warton, Victor Newman, John Silva, Keith Dennison, and Sean Bridges. Jill even married her mother's lover, Stuart Brooks.

Katherine and Jill were mortified when, in 2003, they discovered that they were in fact mother and daughter. The revelation caused Katherine to have a stroke. Yet there was a greater sadness attached to this newly-revealed family connection. For years, Jill's son Billy Abbott and Katherine's granddaughter Mackenzie Browning had been in love. Finally, the two were married. However, the mother-daughter connection between Katherine and Jill meant that Mackenzie and Billy were first cousins. A horrified Jill managed to inform the newlyweds of the shocking news before the marriage was consummated. Heartbroken, Billy and Mackenzie had their union annulled, and the two separately left town.

Jill was engaged to Ji Min Kim, a man she met when the House of Kim CEO briefly owned Jabot. Little did Jill know in the beginning that House of Kim was just a front for Jack Abbott's ownership of Jabot, an ownership he had to give up due to a skin cream contamination scandal. She had been seeing William Bardwell, the District Attorney, who had just inherited a fortune from his late uncle, however, Gloria Fisher Abbott, also had her eye on him. Gloria won out in the end by drugging Ji Min and Jill with libido pills while the two discussed business in the conference room. She then set it up for William to walk in on Jill and Ji Min pawing at each other. A broken-hearted William eventually married Gloria.

In early 2007, it was revealed that an infuriated Kay had switched Jill's son Phillip at birth more than thirty years ago, but had blocked the memory from her mind until recently. Jill and Kay have recently tracked down Jill's real son, Cane Ashby, who has recently moved to the US from Australia. It was revealed in March 2007 that the DNA results proved that Cane was not her son. However, it was eventually found out at Cane and Amber's wedding party that Cane is, in fact, Jill's son.

In June, scandal erupted at Extreme Catwalk, a reality based fashion show for which both Jill and Gloria served as judges, when footage aired showing a confrontation between Lily and Amber. In the footage, Lily accused Amber of sending naked pictures of herself to Lily's husband Daniel. Jill, believing her new daughter-in-law, took her side, but also agreed that it was best that she resign from the show. While Amber is facing scandal, Cane is doing well at Chancellor Industries. Yet, he is starting to become suspicious of Amber, as is everyone else in Genoa City. Cane eventually found out, much to Jill's dismay, that Amber had faked their marriage, and he "divorced" her, and cut her off financially. Jill continues to clash with Amber, despite the fact that Amber and Cane are no longer romantically invovled.

In September 2007, Ji Min was found dead in his room at the Genoa City Athletic Club and left a heart-broken Jill to mourn him while the investigation into his death continues.

In 2008 Kay retired as CEO of Chancellor Industries and made Jill the new CEO of the company.

She is going to have to stop being so hateful to the world. Successful, business women should be charming. Jill is too bright to continue acting so poorly. Something has to give. Jill should have a vacation or some other revelation that helps her to see that the mourning is over. I honestly would be fine if she could somehow find out more about how slimy Ji Min was.

For anyone who is interested, I have posted a photo and brief character Bio. of Phillip Chancellor, II under Y&R Characters. It was good to see his picture again, especially since we still hear Jill and Katherine talk about him from time to time.

Is it just me or are you tired of this wonderful character being on the back burner? Jill was a powerhouse back in the day and I believe she still can be. Imagine if LML wrote a compelling breast cancer story for Y&R's social misfit. A well-written storyline is what this show needs to put itself back on the map. Y&R is the best soap on the air and it's time to prove it. Jill finds out she has breast cancer, opts not to have a mascetomy, and becomes so emotionally unhinged that she attempts suicide. Jess Walton could certainly put this off. Damn, maybe I should be the head writer of Y&R. LOL
