Young and Restless character history:

Neil is currently the co-CEO of Newman Enterprises and widower of the presumed-dead Drucilla Winters. The couple have a teenaged daughter, Lily, and an adopted son named Devon Hamilton.

Much of Y&R's drama over the past decade centered around the question of Lily's paternity. At the time of her conception, Dru had slept with both Neil and his brother, Malcolm. Dru had taken too much cold medicine and thought that she was sleeping with Neil. In 2005, Dru and Malcolm ran a paternity test, which named Malcolm as Lily's biological father. In early 2006, Lily and Neil both discovered the truth. Neil was furious with his wife, while Lily was slightly more forgiving.
During the period when he and Dru were separated, Neil had affairs with Alex Perez and Dru's sister Olivia. He was also briefly engaged to Victoria Newman.

Neil has also battled alcoholism. Recently, he and Carmen Mesta fought romantic feelings for each other. However, Dru became more and more unreasonable over this and terrorized Carmen by breaking into her hotel room and cutting her clothes up with scissors, which caused her to be arrested and ordered into therapy.

Neil soon realized that Carmen was not what she seemed to be. As it turned out, she was quite a manipulative woman, who had an extramarital affair at her previous job with married executive David Chow. She asked for a huge settlement to stop her inevitable firing. Now, Carmen is dead, (she was killed outside of Neil's new jazz club, Indigo) and Neil and his whole family were persons of interest in this case. It was later revealed that Jana Hawks had actually killed Carmen.

In April 2007, Dru and Sharon Abbott fell off a cliff during a photo shoot into the cold waters below. When Dru's body was not recovered, Neil briefly turned to alcohol once again, but stopped when he saw the effect it was having on Lily. Neil has since began dating again.


Neil began a flirtation with Karen Taylor in July 2007 and she moved in with him in early 2008. However, after it was found that Lily was pregnant with the child of her boyfriend, Neil offered to have Lily return to living at his home and he would help support her and participate in the raising of the child, should she wish. This caused tension between Karen and him and Karen decided to move back out. Sadly, Lily suffered a miscarriage, but Karen reiterated her wish to be apart from Neil. She took a job that moved her to New York, and after some time apart, she contacted Neil and he took that as a sign that she may be having regrets about leaving. He decided to make a surprise visit to her in New York, and left after she turned down his offer to be together. However, after his return to Genoa City, she surprised him by arriving on his door step seeking to maintain a connection as friends, at least for the immediate future. She also expressed a desire to return to Newman Enterprises, as her other job is one she can do via telecommuting. Neil responded by indicating he would discuss her request with Victor once Victor has returned from his honeymoon and felt confident that Victor would welcome her return to the company.

Neil has over the years become perhaps the most trusted and valued employee of Victor Newman and was Co-CEO, along with Nick Newman and Victoria Newman before they both left the company due to conflicts with their father Victor. With their departure, Neil has become the sole CEO of Newman Enterprises.

Victor has entrusted Neil with the mentoring of Adam Wilson (real name Victor Jr.) who has recently joined Newman Enterprises following the death of his mother Hope from cancer. Before her death, Hope revealed to Adam that Victor Newman, not the deceased Cliff Wilson, was his biological father. She expressed regret for hiding the truth for so long and forcing Victor to stay out of their lives so she could raise their son on her farm. Just before her passing, Hope made a deathbed request of both men that they work to get to know each other better and establish a true father-son relationship. Neil initially expressed a slight hesitation when asked to mentor Adam, citing the negative experience he had in trying to mentor Nick Newman. However, Victor made it clear that he trusts and values Neil and feels very confident that his son Adam would benefit from the mentoring. Neil then accepted the responsibility and pledged to do his best. He has since been fired from Newman after the "presumed" death of Victor Newman. According to Victor's will, his son Adam recieved Newman Enterprises.

Once Victor returned from the "dead", he re-instated Neil as CEO of Newman. Victor proceeded to fire Adam and allow Neil to take charge of everything involving the business.
