Young and Restless character history:A wealthy and prominent business tycoon, Victor Newman is arguably the most powerful man in Genoa City. Raised as an orphan and determined to be completely independent, he founded and built a corporate empire out of Newman Enterprises. Victor's net worth is estimated to be between $10 to $50 billion.
He has four children: Victoria Newman-Hellstrom, Nick Newman, Victor Newman Jr, and Abby Carlton. He also is the proud grandfather of Noah Newman, Summer Newman, and Reed Hellstrom.
Victor originally came to Genoa City in 1980 to help Katherine Chancellor run Chancellor Industries. He brought his wife Julia with him, and kept her a recluse in their ranch house while he worked.
Longing for work, Julia took a modeling job with photographer Michael Scott, who was attracted to her. Victor became instantly jealous, and when Julia turned up pregnant, he was convinced that the baby was Michael's. In retaliation, Victor imprisoned Michael in the bomb shelter at the ranch. It was this story that turned Victor into a villain, a character type he has largely stayed true to over the course of two decades.
Julia found Michael and freed him from the bomb shelter. While attempting to flee the Newman Ranch, Victor happened upon the pair and a fist fight between Michael, and Victor ensued. Julia got caught up in the crossfire, and suffered a terrible fall, and had a miscarriage. Blood tests later proved that Victor was in fact the father. Julia and Michael left town.
Despite being such a powerful figure in the business world, Victor is largely devoted to his ex-wife, Nikki Newman and family. Despite Victor having been married to Ashey Abbott, Leanna Love, Hope Adams and Diane Jenkins, he and Nikki always seem to find their way back to each other.
Although he is often at odds with his oldest children, Victoria and Nicholas, Victor manages to remain close to them. He also has a son with Hope, Victor Jr., who Hope hasn't allowed him to see since he was very young. His youngest daughter, Abby, didn't know she was Victor's daughter until she was six years old, and so Abby thinks of Brad Carlton, Ashley's now ex-husband, as her daddy. It came out that Ashley had stolen Victor's sperm and became pregnant through artificial insemination.
Victor was diagnosed with temporal lobe epilepsy due to head trauma. His sickness was once taken advantage of by his long-time enemy, Jack Abbott.
In 2007, after the presumed death of Nick, Victor left Genoa City to search for Victor Jr. infuriating Nikki that he'd stay in contact with Hope but not her.
When Victor came back he was furious to learn of his wife's affair with her campaign manager David Chow. Nikki, fed up with Victor's antics, announced she was leaving him. They filed for divorce.
Victor recently went back to Hope's farm, after learning she had been diagnosed with cancer. She died February 18, 2008. Victor has since reached out to Victor Jr, now being referred to as "Adam Wilson", and has offered him a job at Newman Enterprises. After some thought, Adam accepted.
In 2008 Victor became intrigued by Sabrina Costelana, a friend of Victoria's from Florence, Italy. She awakened in him an enjoyment of modern art, inspiring Victor to open Genoa City's first modern art gallery. His daughter's world was rocked when she learned about her father and her best friend were seeing each other. Their close relationship soon evolved into love, and Victor proposed marriage. Sabrina happily accepted and the happy couple announced the news to Victoria, Nick and Adam.
Victor and Sabrina's engagement provoked quite a stir: Victoria turned on Sabrina even more, and felt that she's nothing more than a gold-digger; when Sabrina asked Victoria to be her Matron of Honor, Victoria refused. Nicholas sided with his sister, prompting Victor to ask Adam to serve as his Best Man instead. And, as always, Nikki watched the blossoming relationship closely. She saw the same pattern that always surrounds Victor's new relationships, and didn't think it will last.
Meanwhile, Victor shifted Victoria's position within Newman Enterprises, which only made her more bitter about Adam's presence, enough so that she decided to leave her father's company. Adam then moved into Victoria's office at Newman, and accepted Victor's offer to come live at the Ranch. Victor has created further tension in the family by giving Adam full reign over the company's cosmetics line. On June 13, 2008, Sabrina informed Victor that she was pregnant. On June 20, 2008 Victor and Sabrina married in a small, intimate ceremony at the Newman Ranch.
Sabrina agreed to an article in the new magazine venture of Jack Abbott, Nicholas Newman, Sharon Abbott and Phyllis Newman. The article was to be approved by Victor and Sabrina and show her in a good light. However, Jack was intent on selling more magazine copies. So he got in contact with sources, including Sabrina's recent ex-boyfriend, and made changes that portrayed her as a woman who would do anything to get ahead--including sexual favors. Sabrina was livid and embarrassed over the article, and especially angry at Victoria and her accusations. However, she did not let it get to her and she held her head up in Genoa City.
Sabrina was involved in a car accident along with David Chow. The doctors at the hospital, including the experts brought in by Attorney Michael Baldwin, said she does not have much time to live. She needed a liver transplant, for hers was lacerated, but there were more needy and longtime donors ahead of her. Her organs were failing. In the end, Victoria made peace with Sabrina and they were friends again. Sabrina would die shortly after.
Sabrina's death was no accident, for a hit was put on David's transport, courtesy of the mob. Victor is now bent on getting revenge on the people responsible, and is furrious at Nikki for bringing David into everyone's lives.
